Books, biker dogs and Harleys

My very first book, The Accidental Demon Slayer, is coming out today and I have to admit that I’m probably going to visit it at Borders at some point. I never imagined how crazy it is to have a book published, to be contracted to write more. But as much as I’d like to see the book out there, I’d really like to see another phenomenon taking place across the city of St. Louis this morning.

Yesterday, I received emails from several of the Harley bikers who helped me with my research. Four of these very sweet, yet very tattooed, men are going to be in the romance section today, bright and early, looking for the book. I’d pay to see that.

Then again, these guys have also had several laughs at my expense. When I decided to write a book about a preschool teacher forced to hit the road with a gang of geriatric biker witches, research took on a whole new meaning. Harley_dog_39.jpg

At one point, I found myself on the back of a coal black Harley, behind a guy named Stone, with my helmet on backwards and an Irish Setter in tow. The dog’s name was Frankie and I can tell you right now, Frankie knew a lot more about motorcycles than I did.

But I survived the bikes, even if they made me walk like John Wayne. I learned a ton at biker rallies (note to self: don’t wear pink) and I risked life and limb (at least in my mind) to get my facts right. Plus, since I have a Harley riding dog in my book, I met some of the cutest biker dogs you’ve ever seen.

The book was a kick to research, and to write. And to continue the fun, I’ve developed a highly unscientific What’s Your Biker Witch Name? Quiz. Post your biker witch name below and if you are a registered user here at Cigars, you might win a copy of The Accidental Demon Slayer.

Welcome Angie

The book looks great -- what a super cover! Congrats. Happy to have you here today.

I did my name...hmmmmm... not what I would expect! LOL Honestly, I did it a few times, LOL.

Leggy Lucy Lug Nut

Hmmm. I am not so leggy, unforunately, but I'll probably go around calling my dog this now, since her name is Lucy. ;)

I have to admit, bikes are not my thing, though my BIL goes to a big bike week rally thing up in NH every June... he has a blast. Definitely not my venue, though, LOL.

The guys looking for your book would be a picture -- even better all of them standing around reading it. *G*

Sam

LOL

Chesty Drawers Flat Foot reporting in!

Congrats on your first book, Angie! If I ever wrote a book, you can be sure I'd be at the local book store. Hanging around, nudging people "Look at THIS book. Doesn't THIS book look good? Why look! The author has the same name as ME. Why, it's the book I wrote!"

Yeah, I'd be unbearable. But the Flat Foots (Feet?) are known for that! ;-)

ani

I'm not sure but . . .

I think your quiz has insulted me. lol. My name is Mosquito Bite Marcie Fast Pants. Sounds like you had a lot of fun researching and your story sounds like a fun read. And what a really nice cover. I like it.

LOL!

Well, I'm Chesty Drawers Windy Pants. Hee. Too bad I'm not chesty! :) Congrats on the release! Love the cover.

I guess I didn't log in for my previous comment. I'm Chesty Drawers Windy Pants. :)

Now I've got it right. So congrats one more time!

Ami

Congrats

I'd read about your book in RT magazine and thought I might read it. Now after reading your post I know I will. In fact, I'm heading out the door now.

C. J. (Clamity Jane Harley Squatter.)

Congrats, Angie!

I just emailed you wishing you good luck on your release day (my full name's Carolynn, btw), but had I been paying attention to the guest blogger list, I could've done it here instead.

So I guess I'll just say Congrats twice - great to have you here! :)

It would be very interesting

It would be very interesting to watch the people who come into the book store and see all those bikers staring at a romance book.
Congratulations on surviving the experience.

What hilarious fun, and congrats on your latest, Angie! That's a great cover!

Hey folks...

Angie seems to be MIA, and I'm hoping all is well, but haven't heard from her in email or here -- perhaps her email is down or some such, but I thank you all for stopping by to comment, and I'll keep trying to reach her so she can complete her giveaway. In the meantime, I hope you'll stick with us as we have more guest blogs coming up this week. :)

Rubber Neck Reba Pothole Jumper!

Rubber Neck Reba Pothole Jumper reporting for duty!! Err, uh, well...by reporting I mean showing up to report my Biker Witch name! LOL! These are too funny!

I used to ride on the back of a friend's bike in college. We had a lot of fun!! We'd tool around the mountains and usually end up in some little diner somewhere for lunch. It has been years since we did that...

Congrats on the new book, Angie!

PS - I just went to see what my hubby's name would be...Roadkill Ronnie Bumpy Pants!! Oh my!

Great to see everyone

These comments are cracking me up. And heard back from Stryker and his buddies. They did manage to find the romance section, and enjoyed some of the covers immensely.

Thanks for all of the positive book wishes. Yesterday was a whirlwind - flying to San Francisco for RWA and getting stuck on lots of public transport. I'm glad to be here now, though and would love to answer any questions anyone has about biker dogs or the book. :)

Hey Angie

Oh, I'm sorry we planned your guest blog for a day you weren't around -- did I know that and somehow blanked? Sorry about that...

Could you pick a winner for your book? Or would you like me to do that? Just give a holler and we're all set. :)

Sam

Hi Samantha

The airlines switched my flight, and then it took a bit longer just to travel, so I wasn't planning on being away from my computer for an entire day (talk about withdrawls). My apologies! But it looks like you had a great time without me. Feel free to pick the winner of the book. I can't wait to mail a copy to one lucky winner!

Angie

AMYSMITH98!

You won a copy of Angie's book!

woo hoo! whip out the party hats! :)

Angie, I'll send along Amy's email for you to contact her... ;)

Thanks for coming by, sorry we missed you with the messed up travel!

Sam

Winner!

Yay Hog Wild Harriet Hard Rider! Or Amy Smith. You'll answer to either one, right? As soon as I get your contact info, I'll send that book right out to you. :)

Angie

Woo Hoo!!

Lucky you, Amysmith98!!

Congrats!

ani
