Let’s Hear It For The Boys

(Is anyone else having a Footloose flashback? No? Guess it’s just me then *g*)

Hello Cigar ladies and readers. I’d like to thank Tawny for inviting me to blog with you all!

Jack Martin, the hero of my debut release for Harlequin Superromance, Not Without Her Family, is the by-the-book chief of police of his small town, a devoted father – and to me, sexy as all get-out! He’s a good guy and a great cop but most importantly, he’s a single father who adores his young daughter and only wants the best for her – even if sometimes he feels way out of his element. J

bethbook.jpg Earlier today I was procrastinating…er…I mean researching for my current WIP and came across a link of 20 famous fathers which got me thinking about my favorite famous fathers. And since this Sunday marks Father’s Day in the U.S., and since Jack is definitely one of my favorite (though not so famous *g*) sexy fathers, and because I love to make lists, I thought I’d share with you all:

Beth Andrews’ Favorite Famous (and quite sexy) Fathers!

(in no particular order)

1. Robert Downey Jr – I’ve been a Robert Downey Jr fan since I was a teen and I’ve heard he’s incredible in this summer’s Iron Man!
2. Matt Damon – I loved Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting but didn’t start crushing on him until I saw The Bourne Identity. I so love the first kiss scene!
3. Will Smith – he went from the Fresh Prince to one of the hottest move stars and from all accounts, he’s still a devoted family man.
4. James Marsden – loved him in Superman Returns, Hairspray and 27 Dresses but can’t get enough of him as the clueless prince in Enchanted *g*
5. Patrick Dempsey – I remember watching him in Can’t Buy Me Love (although I’ve never watched Grey’s Anatomy) and I thought he was great in one of my all time favorite movies, Sweet Home Alabama. Oh, and I adored him just as much in Enchanted!
6. Hugh Jackman – now really, do I even need to explain this one? J
7. David Beckham – I never paid much attention to Posh’s hubby until I saw him on the Ellen Degeneres show and he was so sweet and charming, I fell for him instantly *g*
8. Johnny Depp – this one’s for you, Tawny! I could never infringe on my CP’s favorite crush (although I do find JD quite yummy *g*)
9. Seal - *sigh* His music is great but I love seeing him with his family even more!
10. My husband – okay, so he’ s not famous but he’s still my absolute favorite sexy father. He’s a wonderful husband and a terrific dad to our three kids. Yep, I found my own perfect hero ;-)

I’m giving away a signed copy of Not Without Her Family today. All you need to be eligible to win is make sure you’re a registered Cigar member and leave a comment letting me know who your favorite famous father is and I’ll draw a name at the end of the day!

Welcome Beth!

Huge congrats on your debut book! That cover is GORGEOUS!

I hear you on sexy dads (this is kind of interesting, taking off on Megan's topic in a neat way...), and the one that stays in my mind is Pierce Brosnan. There was a (fairly famous, I think), picture of him with his newborn son, Pierce bare-chested with this little baby, and it's always stuck in my mind. I think he's probably one of the best, a really classy guy, as well as talented.

What a great topic. :)

Sam

I'm with you on Pierce. I

I'm with you on Pierce. I think I want to change my favorite dad. I saw a photo of him with his now grown son just after the kid had peed on his shirt, and it was priceless. Good call, Sam!

Ahhh Pierce...

Hey, Sam! Thanks again for having me here *g*

I so agree with you about Pierce being classy and talented. I missed that picture but I would've loved to have seen it (must now google Pierce and baby *g*) There's either a TV commercial or a print ad picture (my brain is fried, the kids have been on summer vacation for an entire WEEK!) where this really buff (I mean HUGE) ripped, shirtless guy is holding a naked newborn against his chest and it's just so precious to me!

Probably because I adore babies. And, yes, shirtless, muscular guys are okay too ;-)

Hi Beth

Waving to a fellow Super Author. My favorite father is without a doubt Johnny Depp. When I read the interview where he said if he wants to spend the afternoon playing Barbies with his daughter, what of it? I melted.

Good to see you here!

wow -- simulpost!

Down to the second, LOL. ;)

Sam

Great minds, Sam. Great

Great minds, Sam. Great minds....

Good call, Jeannie

Hi Jeannie! It's so great to 'see' you here! Can I just say how much I loved The Brother Returns? Excellent story!!

Yes! That is exactly why I adore Johnny Depp as well. He just seems so genuine and obviously adores his kids and family without shoving it in anyone's face. And I bet he's a really cool, fun father too :-)

Beth--I'm so tickled you

Beth--I'm so tickled you read The Brother Returns! Thank you. I can't wait to dive into your book. I'm checking my Wally World today. They're usually a few days slow getting them, but a girl can hope!

Thanks so much, Jeannie! I

Thanks so much, Jeannie! I hope if you do read NWHF, you like it! It seems most stores are slow getting the June Supers for some reason. I've had friends scouring the country and NWHF has just started showing up :-) Luckily, my own Wal-Mart got their copies in last week!

Oh yeah, love Johhny

I wrote a sweet comment but it went poof in the mists *g* so this might be a duplicate sentiment...

but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Johnny Depp. Especially because he's an incredible father. While other guys wear makeup on the red carpet and try to be macho or project an image, he wears a plastic beaded bracelet his little girl made him. He's just so sweet! And hot. And funny. And hot.

Oh yeah, he's hands down my fave!!!

Color me surprised *g*

Tawny, I somehow knew Johnny was your fave :-) Must be that psychic link we've developed over the years! And yes, he seems like such a sweetheart.

And the hotness doesn't hurt either ;-)

Your book sounds awesome,

Your book sounds awesome, sexy Cop, Loving father!! sounds like a winner to me!!
My favorite Famous Father Is Johnny Depp

Johnny's in the lead *g*

Thanks so much, Lori! I see we have another JD fan - you're obviously a woman of superb taste :-) We'd better watch out though - Tawny's been known to get a wee bit jealous over Mr. Depp *g*

Although...

I have to put in high marks for Matt Damon as well -- Boston guy and Red Sox fan, but also a nice, down-to-earth guy who's really cute with his family. I never cared much for him, he's not a crush for me, but I liked him a lot in Bourne and he really won me over in his interview on the Actor's Studio. Seems like a cool, "real" kind of guy.

Sam

My fav famous father is

David James Elliott(from JAG). He is so sexy and there are a couple pics of him with his son and daughter but these are not that sexy of him. There are better ones of him alone.

Ooohh

Good call, Buddy! I hadn't even thought of him. So many famous fathers to choose from, so little time ;-)

Matt (sigh)

As I mentioned, it was The Bourne movies that had my crush on Matt starting but it was a few interviews that had my crush growing *g* When he was named People's Sexiest Man this year his response was so sweet and almost embarrassed -I totally fell for him!

Which is why I put David Beckham on my list as well. I honestly didn't think anything of him (except that he was good looking) but on Ellen he was so charming especially when he talked about his wife and kids :-)

The Hugh

And let's not forget that little bit of perfection known as Hugh Jackman, who is a completely devoted family man -- that's one of the sexiest things about him, really. :)

Sam

PS: edited: OOPS! I see he was already on your master list. ;) But worth mentioning twice. *G*

Oh yes...

That's the sexiest thing about Hugh for me. Another thing I love... he keeps his wedding ring on all the time. I remember one magazine cover where they inverted the image to try to make it look like the ring was on the other hand, lol.

I heart Hugh.

More love for Hugh

Hey, Dee! Doesnt' Hugh seem like such a sweetheart? Like the kind of guy you could stay married to? I didn't know that about his wedding ring but now that I do, I love him even more :-)

Double the Hugh!

LOL, Sam! Yes, Hugh is definitely worth mentioning twice *g*

That's a great list and

That's a great list and congrats on your release! I would add my own husband to the list. He's a great father to our son, taking the time to play and teach and be an overall wonderful role model.

Thanks, JK! I'm pretty excited about my first release *g*

Your husband sound wonderful! Isn't it nice to have our own favorite fathers right there in our house with us?

Going in another direction

Welcome Beth!!

Your book sounds great! I'm hitting Wally's this weekend so will add it to my list.

Two famous fathers I groove on (but you can add me to the Johnny Depp group, too) are

Tim McGraw (man, that man is sexy!) and Trace Adkins.

If any of you watched Celebrity Apprentice (horrible show but I got to watch Trace), you saw what a committed father he is.

All the best,

ani

Famous fathers...

Well, Brad Pitt comes to mind. Anyone who could jump into fatherhood with both feet with Angelina's Insta-brood has my vote. And now he's going to be surrounded by three little biological princesses...I'm sure he's in heaven. He's a doll.

And I know this is going to come off sounding ODD to say the least but I think in spite of everything, K-Fed has really manned up in the daddy department since Brit-Brit went off the deep end. He has buckled down to provide a safe and stable environment for the kids and that says a lot seeing as it would be really easy to pawn off the kids to a nanny or something. So, for now, he has my vote.

Kim

Kim, I so agree with you

Kim, I so agree with you about Brad Pitt. He really seems to be a true family man *g*

I haven't followed much of the Brit/K-Fed thing so I'll just take your word for it ;-)

Great additions!

Ani, Tim McGraw and Trace Adkins are terrific additions! I'm not that into country music but Tim definitely would get my vote. I especially love seeing Tim with Faith - the chemistry between them is HOT *g* Bet he's a great daddy to his little girls :-)

Another Vote For Johnny

I've had a thing for Johnny Deep since 21 Jump Street. I choose him as my favorite famous father because you don't see him parading his kids to the paparazzi. He lives with his family in France and he doesn't care about the limelight. I heard he's the nicest celebrity when it comes to autographs.

I'm with Jane

YES! Wasn't he so adorable back in the 21 Jump Street days? And better yet, as he got all bad boy wild. I have such a soft spot for bad boys, especially when they grow up and become daddy's like him.

*sigh* Beth, great topic. Now I'm all nostalgic and happy sitting here LOL.

I agree

Jane, I've heard the same things about Johnny. And he's very protective of his family which is really refreshing.

I remember those 21 Jump Street days! I think he's improved with age ;-)

Thanks for commenting!

NWHF rocks

I'm so glad you came to visit here Beth - and are sharing one of the things that really makes Not Without Her Family stand out as a great story. Fatherhood and how sexy Jack is as a daddy! I love this story and am so excited its out now :-D YAY!!!

Thanks for inviting me,

Thanks for inviting me, Tawny. And for saying NWHF rocks.

Tawny's read/critted NWHF so often, she probably knows the story by heart! I couldn't have done it without you!!

:-)

Surfer Boy

My absolute favorite dad is Laird Hamilton, surfer-extraordinaire. I love that he's so in love with his wife, Gabrielle Reese. They just had their second baby together, but there's a picture of him holding his first daughter on the palm of his hand; she's about fourteen months old, and she's balancing herself on his hand just like a tiny surfer-girl. Totally adorable.

Hi Karen! I've never even

Hi Karen! I've never even heard of Laird Hamilton. I really need to get out more. Of course I've heard of Gabrielle Reese - she's gorgeous *g*

That picture sounds adorable! Sounds like a fun dad :-)

Mmm...

Hugh :) He IS a hottie, and I didn't know that about his wedding ring--how sweet!

Beth, Not Without Her Family sounds fabulous--I do love books about good fathers--it's very sexy!

Thanks so much, Fedora!

Thanks so much, Fedora! Jack's a good guy and I really tried to show that it's not just bad boys who are sexy and have all the fun *g*

I think good fathers are sexy too. And I can't help crushing on a guy who's totally devoted to his wife and kids :-)

Okay, but now, to cause a little trouble ... *G*

Having been a single mom, I guess I wonder, why is it that single dads are so sexy, and single moms. . .aren't? LOL I mean, even in Supers I've read, it's not the same. Usually it's like "oh, woman with children... she'll never find a guy ready to take on those kids" (thank God we do find good men who love us and our children), or the guy is like "sexy woman... too bad she has kids..." -- guys with kids are like saints, but single moms put up with a lot of crap (I can speak personally to this believe me... especially if you work, you are the devil), but honestly, what is so sexy about a single dad that isn't sexy about a single mom (not to us, obviously, but in general?)

Sam

Good question, Sam. Maybe

Good question, Sam. Maybe it's that whole "Guys are afraid to commit" stereotype? They fear being tied to one woman so getting involved with someone with kids is doubly frightening?

For me, it's not that ALL single dads are sexy. What I find sexy is a father who's devoted to his kids and puts his family first - and of all my picks, only Robert Downey Jr is single (well, JD isn't married but he might as well be *g*) I think it's so great when a guy is so obviously head-over-heels for his kids (or wife).

In NWHF, it's actually my heroine who doesn't want to get involved with Jack because he has a kid. Kids make her nervous and the last thing she wants is to get entangled in their little family.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

now I really have to read your book!

...even though I planned on it anyway, but I love that you reversed the dynamic! Excellent! :)

Sam

Thanks, Sam! My heroine had

Thanks, Sam! My heroine had a tough childhood so the whole loving family dynamic is a bit foreign to her *g* And of course Jack had to wonder if he really wanted a troublemaker like Kelsey (the heroine) around his daughter :-)

Extremely good question!

Sam, that's an excellent point--I'm not sure exactly why there's that difference in how we view single parents. I think a lot of it has to do with expectations and how the image of single moms tends to be busy/stressed/overworked rather than sexy and competent and the image of single dads tends to be also busy/stressed/overworked but then more women sort of go, "ooh, let me help you with that" while more men might react instead, "yikes, get me out of here." Sorry, that was rather disjointed and not very insightful!

Anyway, parenting is a tough job, and more so when you're doing it on your own--hats off to single moms and dads!

Beth, I'm totally curious to read NWHF to see the whole dynamic now--I've definitely read the single-mom with the guy not sure he wants to commit; I can't wait to see it work the other way :)

Fedora, that's such a good

Fedora, that's such a good point! Women might see a single dad as needing her, and his kids needing her as well.

I also think mothers are sometimes viewed as sexless creatures or put on a pedestal. I know my own kids have told me even when they're old enough, they don't want to read my stories because they really don't want to know what I know about sex. LOL!

And yes, Jack is very busy and stressed which I show in a scene in the book where he's frantically trying to make cookies (at 9pm at night) for his daughter to take to school the next day.

Congrats on your release! My

Congrats on your release!
My favorite famous father is Garth Brooks. He retired so he could be with his girls.

Thanks for the congrats,

Good pick for fave dad *g*

Oooohhhhh!!

I just read the exerpt on Amazon, and I am definitely picking this up this weekend!!

Congrats, Beth!

Congrats on the release of NOT WITHOUT HER FAMILY. Can't wait to see it in my store and, especially, in my hands!

I'd choose Pierce Brosnan. He seems so loving and involved with his children. I remember that picture of him with his baby son. I also love that he always refers to his late wife's children as "my kids", never as 'steps'.

Hi PJ! Pierce is a popular

Hi PJ! Pierce is a popular pick as well *g* You know, this is why I think Kurt Russell is so great as well. Goldie's kids are his kids too - not his steps. Thanks for commenting!
