The best book I've read lately was an ebook. It was Master of Obsidian by Jamie Craig. It's a m/m erotic vampire story, and so hot!

Nightswimmer

I just finished Nightswimmer by Joseph Olshan. It is kind of a love story, but not really a romance. I liked the author's use of a particular literary device (I don't know what it is called.) Definitely a story that pulled on my heartstrings a bit.

"Only" going to be 80 here today. Ugh! October should have a chill in the air!! And usually we've had a big snowstorm by now, that has all melted. And usually a lot of the mtn passes have closed...not so this year. Come on Mother Nature, bring on the snow and cold! I have a new winter jacket to wear! :-D

MORE BOOKS

A book that I will remember and cherish forever is A Thread of Grace by Mary Doria Russell. Well written and excellent story. We have real fall but gorgeous sunny days.

READ

The Surrogate by Judith Henry Wall is unique and gripping. I have read all of this author's books and love her writing style and novels.

Cathy and Melissa

"Dream a little dream of me"

Hi Lisa,
I just finished DREAM COUNTRY by Luanne Rice. It was fantastic! Engrossing family saga that was very well written and yanks at those heartstrings. She gives an accurate portrayal of ranching life. I mean she pulls no punches. I look forward to reading more books by Luanne. I just bought ANGELS ALL OVER TOWN and can't wait to dig in. What a brilliant storyteller Luanne is!
Now, since Halloween is upon us I'd highly recommend any book by Minda Webber. You'll laugh yir hiney off. OK, gotta go change that L on my last name. It will be a K as I got married October 4th! YAY!

MelissaL

Congratulations!

Congrats on getting married, Melissa!! When you figure out how to change your username, would you let me know? I got married in Aug and haven't been able to get my H to become a W. :-)

Damsels in Distress

Thanks, Cathy! CONGRATULATIONS to you too!!
I tried to change my username yesterday but couldn't. Lo! I see a white horse...is it...is it..IT'S SAM AND SHE'S COME TO OUR RESCUE! YAY!

MelissaK

I missed a post somewhere! Melissa got married? ! YAY! Congrats! And congrats to you too Cathy! Okay ladies! Tell us. Was it a big wedding. Small and romantic...and the honeymoon?!

Why, thank you!

Ours was in the middle - about 150 people - but they came from around the US and even one family from overseas! We made a weekend of it - had a big picnic the day before for all guests, then the wedding/reception on Sunday. Sooo much fun! Honeymoon will be over New Year's in Alaska. I can't wait!

I have never read Luanne but

I have never read Luanne but I have often wondered why?! I hear her name so often. I think I just never manage to grab her at the store. I really need to try her. Moving her to the top!

Hi Lisa!! Yes, I love this

Hi Lisa!! Yes, I love this time of year when the days turn cooler and the nights begin earlier. I don't feel quite so guilty when I curl up with a good book! I just finished GARDEN SPELLS by Sarah Addison Allen, and it was really good. If you ever watched the movie, Practical Magic, it had a similar feel. An old family home, two sisters, a little magic and a lot of romance...very fun and entertaining.

I just saw that movie again

I just saw that movie again recently and forgot how much I enjoyed it! How funny you brought it up. I'll have to check that one out. I am enjoying magic as a part of books lately.

Book recommendations

Here are a few books I recently read that I enjoyed:
Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward
Embraced by Darkness by Keri Arthur
Mustang Wild by Stacey Kayne

I got my mom hooked on JR

I got my mom hooked on JR Ward. So funny. She loves her, Kenyon, and Brockmann. So many of my favorites. We have really started bonding over books since she recently became reading obsessed again. It's fun. I have Keri in my need to read, or did! My mom took it!I don't know Stacey Kayne. I'll look that one up.

You know, this is one I couldn't get hooked on

I read the first one, because so many people I know are crazy about these books, but I just couldn't get into them. Must be missing a gene or something...

I am reading Nalini Singh's Slave to Sensation, and absolutely loving her -- really one of the best I've read in a while, paranormally speaking. I'm glad we met here here on the blog.

I also have several Blaze and Supers lined up, and have to find time for them, but would very much recommend Nalini...

Sam

Recent reads...

I'm finally reading through Julia Quinn's Bridgerton family books, and LOVE this series. The first few in particular (The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, An Offer from a Gentleman...) are fabulous--great heroes, and un-wimpy heroines :) I have only the last one left, and I'm reluctant to start it because then I won't have more of this to look forward to.

I also read a paranormal anthology recently (Hot Spell, with stories by Emma Holly, Lora Leigh, Meljean Brook, and Shiloh Walker), and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I usually shy away from vamps, demons, shape changers, etc., but this collection was pretty intriguing and not too scary for my admittedly scaredy-cat self.

I just finished reading Lean

I just finished reading Lean Mean Thirteen by Janet Evanovich. I have read the whole series and can always count on a Stephanie Plum adventure to get me laughing.

Okay, hmmm

I thought I changed your initial under the users... and yet here you are, still an M. I'll ask Mike and get this changed for you and Melissa, if you don't get it done before me -- sorry about that! Some tecchie I am...

Sam

Thank you!

Sam - thank you so much! Although, it took me a while to log on this morning, as 'Cathy H' no longer worked!! ;-)

Cathy M isn't - and wasn't - me, though. She's probably fine keeping her name the way it is, LOL!

Whoops...

Didn't occur to me it would cause login problems! LOL I am such a dunce sometimes... I hope Melissa gets in okay... I'll send her an email...

Sam, glad we got that M turned upside down.. ;)

It all worked out!

I admit to being stumped at first, as to why I couldn't log in. Then I remembered commenting about changing the H to a W. So, I tried that and wah-la! He he- nothing like a good bit of sleuthing to get me going on a blah Wednesday.

Thanks again for your help!

Recent reads

I just finished The Serpent Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt and I would recommend it.

Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward -

Lover Unbound by J.R. Ward - unique, sexy, an edge of your seat ride. But then I adore the brothers!

I just finished Triptych by

I just finished Triptych by Karin Slaughter. It was am excellent book.

I haven't read it *just*

I haven't read it *just* yet, but I imagine I'll be able to definitely say Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas. She practically never disappoints!! :)

Lois

book

Kiss Me Deadly by Michele Hauf.

My suggestion is

I just finished not to long ago an ARC I received When I'm Not Myself by Deborah J. Wolf. It was wonderful book about a mother of 3 in her 40's who one day finds out that her husband is leaving her for another woman. It also tells the story of 4 good friends who stick together through the years and are there for each other no matter what. I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it!

Good question :)

A recent good read was Lady Vixen by Shirlee Busbee, I know it is quite old but read it in french where they re-edited it and it was really a nice historical romance with a lot of details and depth to the characters.

I am not really sure

I have just finished reading Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas... and I thought the book really ressembled Susan e. Phillips though the latter is better.

I really prefered her historicals!

book suggestions

I just finished "The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. I don't have a category to put it in - not romance really or religious like it sounds. It's got such an original premise and is very thought provoking. It's one of those books you will think about long after reading it.

Good Read

Overexposed by Leslie Kelly - latest of the Santori series and HOT HOT HOT - worth the read for the cannoli scene. And it was intro to me of the sexy brothers. Now I have to get all the others.
