Whatcha doin' this weekend?

Samantha Hunter's picture

Hey folks -- our Thursday guest blogger was a no-show, and there's no one scheduled for today, so even though I'll be blogging officially on Monday, I thought I'd pop in to fill the radio silence and just open a thread where you can share weekend plans, or anything else you'd want to chat about. What are you reading this weekend? Any other special plans?

I'll be working on the bathroom down the hall from the kitchen... project creep, you know. The kitchen is 90% done, but the work extended down the hallway and into the attached bathroom, and I've gotten so tile happy that I'm tiling the bathroom 48" up (the top is still pretty wallpaper that was just put up a few years ago, but the bottom half has gotten dinged and scraped, so I think tile is a good idea, and also while the sink, etc is pulled out from the floor replacement, it's the time to do it...).

Other than that, will go see my Dad for a few hours, going to dinner with Mike Saturday night, and will finish Vivi Anna's Dark Lies (enjoyed it very much -- had a great twist on the story) and think about which book to read next... Maybe a Blaze since I have them stacking up. And plan my Monday blog and contest, of course... ;)

How about you?

Sam

Plans for the weekend

I think I am going to just read...no big plans.

To many of us that sounds

To many of us that sounds pretty much like heaven! :)

Sam

Oh, fun blog post!

Let's see...tonight is knitting moms night, which means lots of alcohol and chocolate after the kiddos are in bed, and maybe some knitting. Tomorrow...freelance work, and date night with Mark, and Sunday my writers group meets! It's going to be a great weekend!

Reading: just finished Lean Mean 13, which was far less violent than its predecessors, and had a couple of laugh out loud funny moments. Next up, a re-read of The DaVinci Code, and a new book called Fieldwork.

LOL

On the knitting... might be a little crooked all things considered? ;)

Saturday is our date night, too -- it's either Fri or Sat, but this week Sat, and with any luck, might be a double date with some good friends who are always fun to be out with... I think date nights are really important. :)

Have a great weekend everyone!!

My son's birthday is Sunday. We're having a party for him ( mostly family & a couple of his friends). So, I have to finish getting everything for that and clean the house. Hoping to read Because of A Boy by Anna Destefano and Never Say Never by Geralyn Dawson. Also picked up Lisa's The Beast Within. My tbr pile is so big right now.

Oh, a Super!

I love Anna, she's awesome. I just picked up Carrie Weaver's Temporary Nanny, and pushing it to the top of the TBR because she'll be here blogging in a week or so... :)

Weekend Plans

The guys are going camping for scouts, so I will get peace and quiet tonight. Plan to turn the fireplace on and read, Watch The Ghost Whisperer, Men In Tress, and read some more. Tomorrow I will go visit them, after they do the long hike;) Two of the guys are wonderful cooks and serve up a feast, so I can't miss that. Then I will come home and have more time alone to read (see a trend here). Sunday, I will have to listen to two tired whiners;)

I just finished an awesome Blaze. It is called The Pleasure Chest and I LOVED it. Funny, funny, funny, a couple aaawww so sweet moments, and HOT!!!

Reading and writing

I need to redo my synop and try to get the last half of my ms edited so I can finally email it off. Plus my TBR pile is threatening to topple over and harm someone, so I should try and finish one or two :)

wow, you're ambitious

I almost never write on weekends. Sometimes I think I will, but I can't quite bring myself to do it, my mind is definitely shut down on Sat and Sun -- except sometimes Mike has to travel and leaves on Sunday, rarely, but when it happens, I sometimes will spend Sunday writing in that case...

Good luck! What's the sub for, Blaze?

Sam

A busy one!!

Tomorrow morning, I'm going to our tri-annual Friends of the Library sale. It's a great way to support the community, pick up a book by a new-to-me author and a get together with a friend or two.

In the afternoon I'm going to visit the no-show, Kate Austin, who will be signing at our local Barnes & Noble. I was looking forward to telling her I was going to get a chance to meet her.

I've got to finish shopping for The Child's birthday. He'll be 16 on Thursday next.

I've also got to do a deep clean of the house, especially the spare bedrooms, because my eldest son and friend are coming to visit for a week beginning next weekend.

We haven't seen him in 3.5 years so we're very excited!!

LOL Poor Kate

Now I wasn't going to say her name in case no one noticed, because I know she probably had a lot of good reasons for abandoning us [G] But tell her I said hi, and we want her back any time. ;)

This sounds like a very exciting time, ani! Except for the house deep clean... ;)

Sam

Welll....

Barnes and Noble screwed up AGAIN so I didn't get to see her!! On their website (and I checked 2 weeks ago when I went in to pick up Flyboy) it said the signing was 1-3 which was perfect because I had a 2:30 appt I couldn't break.

We got there at 12:45 and the sign said the signing was at 3 pm!!

I bought her book but I wasn't able to get it signed or meet her. :-(

Cleaning the garage?

That doesn't sound like too much fun, does it? Oh well! I've got boxes of kids clothes to swap out (put the right size in their drawers, box up the outgrown ones and figure out what to do with them), random piles of junk to sort through...

Some music to learn for the Christmas chorus coming up, and maybe some time for reading! Just started Isabel Sharpe's Thrill Me...

Oh, love Isabel...

She's so good. I think I'll start Lori Wilde's Her Secret Life next... the first in the Martini Dares series...

Sam

Oh, I'm going to go see

Oh, I'm going to go see Elvis lives!!! This is the second time I've seen him and really, you actually forget for a while that it isn't Elvis!!!

Busy Weekend

Taking the kiddos to see Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D tonight, but it's an early show and only an hour long, so I'll browse through Target while they're in the theater. Then back home to catch MOONLIGHT, where Beth will have to save Mick by allowing him to bite her...can't wait. Hope it's not a big let-down.

Tomorrow and Sunday the girls are participating in a weekend "Haunted Trail" at a local state park, where you pay to walk along pretty, wooded trails and watch a whole bunch of 2-5 minute "scary" skits performed by a local kids' theater troupe. Always fun, always a little twisted.

On Sunday, I'll be talking to my local writer's group about what it's like to write for Blaze. My worst fear is that I'll put those good ladies to sleep! Then off for a much-needed drink with my gal pals from the Moody Muses, and home again. Should be a beautiful weekend, so looking forward to it!

You'll be great!

I wish I was there to hear your presentation, but you'll rock, I have no doubt.

I wondered about the bite thing -- mostly because it's happening so fast - it took several seasons before Angel bit Buffy (also to save his life) and it was a huge deal... I don't know about Moonlight, I really don't.

I did catch Blood Ties, though, and I think it's way better -- much more sophisticated.

I just finished baking 16 mini-pies -- I wanted to make some small pies for my dad because that way he could freeze one or two and have them in the future, and we can freeze a few, too, but it was so much work! From now on I'd much rather make several regular size pies and just bring him slices, LOL.

Reading Martha Stewart's Thanksgiving issue because we're having a big crowd for Turkey day this year...

Will be back in the writing horse Monday, but the thing I love about this job is I can take days off whenever I want, so it's been an early start to the weekend...

Sam

Thanks, Sam

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sam! I haven't watched Blood Ties, but now that you've mentioned it's good, I'll try and catch the next episode. Yeah, Moonlight is moving fast...I think they're trying to get some good stuff in before the show gets yanked, in the hope they might avoid that particular silver bullet (or is that only for werewolves, LOL?).

LOL

You know, I don't know about the silver thing...

I know what you mean -- there's so much pressure these days to be a hit off the bat, or they get pulled, but I still think if you don't pace a story right, you're screwed either way, but we'll see...

I didn't see the first season of Blood Ties and I've only read one of Huff's books, but I was still able to enjoy the episode, so I hope you do, too. :)

Sam

Spending time with the hubby this weekend...

Since it's our six year anniversary tomorrow! Actually, all we're really doing is going window shopping. Literally. And probably to lunch. But we'll be without our three kids, so I'm pretty excited. It's not often I get undisturbed alone time with the hubster! :)

woo hoo!

So we know you're having an exciting weekend! ;)

Happy Anniversary. :)

Sam

.... Wait a minute.... six years and three kids? You guys are ALWAYS busy, aren't you??? LOL

Happy Anniversary

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SASSA! I hope you have a wonderful day. Mads:)

Well it is easy!

Hi Samantha,

the answer is super easy... I will be reading the Hot Wires series that I have just received ;0 Rings a bell?

Thank you so much!!

It is raining here this

It is raining here this weekend---a good time to read.

Writing, always writing!!!

I have a script to write this weekend. Since my weekdays are busy with my latest Blaze manuscript, the weekend has been cordoned off for TV work. But I will probably squeeze in some gelati and shoe shopping time as well, just to make sure I take advantage of being You-Know-Where. Have a good one, everyone. (Oh, and if I get a chance, I'll be reading, too. Picked up a copy of Shirley's The Angel Ordered Lobster (sorry, Shirley, if I got the title wrong, but the book is in the bedroom and I'm not!), plus the latest Tess Gerritson and a couple of other books, too. Sigh. I love having a TBR pile. But I always gobble it up too quickly.)

Weekend plans

Hail to the Redskins!

Saturday, neices birthday, gotta wrap gifts.

Sunday Redskins game. Hope they win!

Started a new job, so I'll also try to be catching up on chores. Love the new job though!

That's so cool! And More about the food series...

I hope you have a great weekend!! And hope you enjoy the book!

There's a funny story behind that book, too. When I went to write one of the scenes in it (when Meredith gets her hair cut), I wanted to reference a hair goddess, who was dead. I ran through dozens of names, popping them in and out of my manuscript, but not finding one I liked. Then I thought of Brigitte Bardot, whose hair I always loved. Looked up how to spell her name, but forgot to look up the date of her death.

The book goes through my editor, copyeditor, production, me twice more, and no one else apparently thought to look that up either. Then the book comes out and wouldn't you know the FIRST reader letter I get says, "Uh, Shirley, you do know that Bardot is alive and well and fighting for animal rights in Europe, don't you?"

ARGH! I hate those kinds of mistakes and try NEVER to make them myself. They make me INSANE. Of course, it's too late now, so the best I can do is add a disclaimer from the slightly crazy hairdresser who channeled Bardot: http://www.shirleyjump.com/resource/item-db7bac21-2860-444d-a218-9ef3113ac86f.aspx

Ah well, if they ever reissue the book, I can fix it then. Of course, with my luck, Bardot will die quietly and I won't know and then some reader will e-mail me and say, "Uh, Shirley, she just died. Can't you get that right?" :-)

For those who want to know about where the food series idea came from and why I use one certain restaurant so often, there's a whole Behind the Book Q&A here, too:

Busy weekend ahead for me

Cleaning my room, writing a seminar paper about Harry Potter, doing some more stuff for university.

Diva Day, then Bonfire

I get to be a diva for a bit sort of, LOL, because I'm the sole guest on a one-hour radio show this morning, and we're giving away a few of my books. Then we have a bunch of kid things to drive to all afternoon (what weekend doesn't? ugh!) and then a wedding, then a bonfire party to go to. I will change in between ;-) But it'll be fun.

We're also decorating the house big-time for Halloween this year, and it's the first time I've done that, which has been really fun. We got a wraith for the window (one of those skeletal women) and lit her from behind, then put spider webs all around. It creeps out even the animals :-).

Hi Sam

I just had my first Saturday off in 3 months so, I'm just sitting around the house, doing absolutely nothing. It's just like Heaven!!! I just got The Beast Within so, I'm going to start reading that tonight. I hope you have a great week. Hugs, Mads:)

Good Question!!

What I will do... relax, read, and go shop!

I did housework (boring) and

I did housework (boring) and read a bit. Right now I'm going to read "Jax and the Giant's Beanstalk". I just love fractured/wicked fairy tales. Glad to see your little blog and will return to it regularly.

Looks like lots of things happened this weekend!

I spent some time with DH, painted mugs for gifts for guest speakers for my woman's club, did some shoe shopping, watched football, watched hockey, baked cookies, read, was supposed to go to book club but it was canceled (which means that all the cookies are still here in the house - eep!), and finished a cross-stitch piece I was working on. A great relaxing weekend!
