Well, let's get the "bad" news out of the way -- nope, I didn't snag the Rita, but HUGE congrats to Helen Brenna, who won in our category, and I can't wait to read her book.
It's difficult to convince folks that I'm really okay with this without sounding like I don't care -- I do -- I can't tell you how great it is to have been nominated, and to have gotten all the cheers and support along the way. I got the update from Karen around midnight or so, and then went back to sleep and I'm here enjoying my Sunday morning, so no worries, honest. This has been a great experience, and all is good. :) 'Nuff said.

I know it's cliche to say I was happy just with the nom, but I really was! If you could have seen me that day, with that phone call, you would have laughed your ass off, because I was all crying and blubbery like a beauty contest or something, LOL. I called my ed to tell her and started crying again, because I was just so emotional at having received that nod from the romance writing community.
That's the experience that hangs with me. So, you know, I kind of think of myself as a winner, too, LOL, because damn, my book was counted among the eight best in that category for 2008 -- I am SO okay with this, LOL, though it's been rather odd convincing people of that! LOL

It's that whole cream of the crop thing...
You know how when you're watching the Olympics and there's this big deal about being the gold medalist? Well, I always just think about how incredible these athletes are to have even made it to the Olympics in the first place--sure, it'd be fantastic to win the gold medal, but it isn't as if winning the silver makes you a loser! Sam, you're a fabulous writer, and you're right--even the nomination recognizes your talent!

Well, now I feel a little full of myself, LOL -- but honestly, it's also about not dismissing the people who were kind enough to vote for my book, etc. To me, their vote counted. A lot. Nuff said.
I agree with you completely on the Olympics, btw, and looking forward to watching them -- I know a few competitors from my Ninja Warrior addiction, since they have several Olympic athletes on there, so I'm looking forward to that.
I hope we have a blogger tomorrow, LOL -- sorry for you all just being stuck with me today. I think Jeannie must have been in transit today, she had a race yesterday, and probably just got back today, and then I haven't heard from our blogger for tomorrow, so we shall see... you may be stuck with me for one more day until someone rescues you all on Wed...
