Easily Distracted by Shiny Objects
The Romance Writers of America conference is next week, and when my husband asked if I needed any new clothes this year before I went, I said "no." I had REALLY good intentions of not buying anything. Honest, I did. And then my friend wanted to go shopping because she was going to the conference, and ended up at Macy's. In the shoe department. In the middle of a clearance sale. Need I say more?
I'm easily distracted by shiny objects, particularly ones that have high heels and a red clearance price tag ;-).
I had just been in Macy's a couple days before and bought two pairs of shoes. So I KNEW I shouldn't be back. (Not to mention the two pairs I bought online at DSW just a couple weeks ago. Aren't those black heels awesome? I loved them. They're still on clearance at Macy's, FYI, both online and in the store. But I didn't tell you that, LOL.)
So I should have been smart and completely bypassed the shoe department, going straight to the Petites, where my friend needed to go.
But the shoes CALLED to me. I swear.
So I stopped. Just for a second, I told myself. Like a sugar addict passing a candy counter, just to inhale the scent of chocolate.
I found several in my size on the rack, tried them on, and told myself I was only going to buy one pair. But the other women in the store loved them all and even the sales guy drooled over one pair in particular.
(though that might have been more out of a guy stiletto thing than anything else). And so I was talked into buying ALL of them.
I don't have pictures of all...um...FIVE pairs of shoes, but I got some really cute black and white ones with bows on them, these neat Anne Klein pumps, some hot Guess stilettos, and a pair of simple denim slides.
.
And then guess where we ended up later that night? At the mall. Which had...a DSW (if you have never been to a DSW and you love shoes, you MUST GO. It is the HUGEST SHOE STORE EVA. A positive shoe MECCA. Try the online store for great buys, too). But you all would be proud of me. Even though I came within an inch of buying some Jessica Simpson stilettos, in the end I talked myself out of them.
Because they didn't have my size in red ;-)
Shirley
Here's the PS with a picture of the Jessica Simpson shoes I got this afternoon. I know, I know. An intervention should be just around the corner, LOL.

Shoe addiction
Shoes can be addictive, who knew ?? One pair is rarely enough. PLus shoes are faithful. It's the one thing you can keep on wearing after pregnancies, holiday orgies... you get my meaning !
I lOVE SHOES ! lol
ps : Aren't those Jessica Simpson Henri Stilleto just perfect...
A woman after my own heart!
I have an entire wall of shoes in my closet. It's a sickness, LOL. And yes, I had no idea those JS Stilettos were so comfortable until I tried them on in DSW. Now I really, really want them. I do know that Macy's carries them... ;-)
Like I need ONE MORE PAIR OF SHOES, LOL. But I do have to go back to the mall today. What a pity ;-)

more on my shopping trip...
My friend Cathy (who I went shopping with) also posted a blog about our shopping trip today, along with a pic of the denim slides that we got for like $7.50 (marked down from $50).

Did go and get Jessica Simpsons after all..
I had to go to the Verizon store today (honest to Pete, had to replace a battery for my Blackberry :-) and it just so happened to be at the mall. Near Macy's. :-) So I went in, and lo and behold, there were red patent leather Jessica Simpson stilettos on clearance. 5" heels (so those are what I call 4-hour shoes, not all-day shoes). Got them for $26 :-). Love them already. they got a place of prominence on the shelf.
(added a pic of them to my blog post--look for the PS at the end)
Sigh. I must stay home more.

who can resist red patent after all ???
Jessica Simpson red stilletos for 26 $... nah you really don't need to feel bad about it!! Of course if it's the 6th pair in 24 hours...lol (who am I to talk anyway !!).
Actually...
Don't tell my husband, but if I add in those other two from a couple days before...um, eight pairs in the last three days.
I need an intervention, LOL.

LOL
Shirley, you kill me -- when you said distracted by shiny things, all I could think of was my BIL who says that his wife and daughter are like crows, distracted by shiny things. LOL
I think your shoes are very cute. :) I'm sure you look great in them, too. As probably everyone in the universe knows at this point, I am not a shoe person at all. I have been in DSW, etc and just blink and usually have to leave, LOL. It's too much.
I have four categories of shoe in my life: clog, sandal, sneaker, winter boot, and nothing with anything remotely resembling a heel, LOL. In part it's a comfort issue, a personal preference, but I also have wide feet and a touchy back (my doctor is SO against heels, LOL), so I only wear flat shoes with good support. Clarks, Birks, and Haflingers are my main shoes -- not cheap, by any means, I like good shoes, but they are more practical, perhaps on the funky side, but not in the realm of stilettos or such.
My thing is probably fabric...the way you feel about shoe stores is how I get if I walk into any fabric/quilt shop. :) Shoes, I buy online, largely, because I know my size and what I like, and I just order them from Zappos or Online Shoes. :)
Sam
Couldn't be more opposite if we tried, Sam!
LOL, because I used to like sewing a gazillion years ago...now I'm all about ready-to-wear (instant gratification, LOL).
And I think except for my slippers and a couple pairs of flip-flops, EVERYTHING I own has heels. Probably even my sneakers, LOL.

Oh,
And I do have one pair of Doc Martens, which I think is probably enough to make heel-lovers cringe, but I like them. :) Especially in winter...
Sam
oooh....
Pretty, Shirley!! I so enjoy seeing shoe collections that belong to people with taste... I kind of like shoes, but I don't know how to pick them, so I'm not too much of a shopper. I can definitely see the appeal though! I'd better stay away from the mall! ;)
Just watch What Not to Wear!
Stacy and Clinton are pretty good about helping the people on the show pick what's in/out or what goes with this outfit and that one. I like pointy toe as opposed to round toe because they make my legs look longer (and if you get the right pointy toe they don't pinch at all). And I rarely matchy-match my shoes to my outfit. I like to think of them as accent accessories. Like a red pillow on a white couch :-)

LOL!
Boy, those red ones sure are pretty!! If I could find those in my size for $26, I'd be all over them... Wonder if I should head to the mall after all... ;) Great work, Shirley!
Worth a try!
I wanted the pink ones, too (they had a peep toe) but those ones were only left in all the sizes BUT mine, LOL. Probably a good thing!
And y'all would be proud of me. I resisted another pair of Michael Kors and the faux alligator skin Jessica Simpson ones! I really liked them but gave them back to the shoe guy. I think I'm going to put his kids through college ;-)

Ooh! Pretty!
I love shoes! Unfortunately, shoes no longer love me. The doc says I'm paying for all those years I wore the gorgeous high heels to work every day. These days I mostly wear flats or tennis shoes (with orthotics) and drool with envy when I see a pair of gorgeous heels stride by. If you see a drooling woman with eyes glazed over with shoe lust following you around RWA next week don't panic. It's just me.
LOL, PJ!
Just look for me...I'll probably have at least two different shoe changes per day. You would NOT believe how many pairs I bring with me for the few days I'm at RWA. It's a sickness, LOL

Okay Shirley!
I'm here to talk you down girl.
Step away from the shoes, put them down and back away.
I agree with Sam, i cannot do heels. It is a comfort thing, but for me more of a safety thing. Let's just say my nickname is "She who falls down alot" and thats in tennis shoes. So you can imagine how many times i've wiped out in heels. Which is why i wear nothing but my tennis shoes, sandals and the same pare of flats i've had for six or seven years.
I love the look of heels, but with a wide foot and being a clutz they just arent an option for me.
So nope, i own about five pairs of shoes, that's it.
I have no shoe obsessions!
(Jody smiles and hides the bulgin closet that is chock full of every shape and size of purse and tota bag!!)
oops, you werent supposed to see that!
oh well, at least i dont fall down in them, just over them!
oh and last year one site did a nora watch, and posted what type of shoes she had on every day. I think we should to a Shirley watch and post all your pretties!!
jody
have a great time.(Without me, boohoo)
Jody
Yes, my Native American name would have been "She Who Trips Over Things" (usually her own feet). LOL
I think at our Cigars lunch I am going to get a picture of everyone's feet, LOL.
Sam
I'll have to be sure..
To wear cool shoes then, Sam!
Shirley, who is probably bringing more shoes than outfits to RWA ;-)

LOL.
I think I might have just enough pairs to do a year's worth of watching, LOL! Of course, then DH would actually know HOW MANY I own. That would be bad for convincing him I need more ;-)
I love purses, too!! Love them! Wish I had more of those. Sigh. need a bigger budget ;-)

Logic
The thing is, the more shoes you have, the more matching purses you NEED... try to explain THAT to your husband !!! My DH's answer was "buy a nice black one... it matches everthing", yeah right !!
Sounds like my husband!
He owns like three pairs of shoes. Black goes with everything, he says. Sigh. He just DOES NOT GET IT.
I just finished trying on and choosing everything for RWA. I think I might need two suitcases, LOL. FIVE pairs of shoes are going with me. That's just sick, LOL.

Five is not so bad!
Five isn't bad at all! I hear people on Twitter talking upwards of ten. Someone somewhere said they had to send their shoes on separately, ahead, through mail.
I will have four, if I include the flip-flops for the PJ party, LOL.
I think you need to double that to keep up your street cred as a shoe addict, LOL.
Sam
Oh, that's just the high heels, LOL
I'll have flip-flops with me, and slippers for PJ party. And the heels I wear to the airport (because I have a sneaking suspicion they won't fit in the suitcase). So that makes...uh...8.
And I'm only there Wed., Thu. and Fri., LOL.
