The Perfect Romantic Getaway
EDIT: And the winner is: Tracey!! Tracey, congratulations. If you'll drop me an email to Tawny@TawnyWeber.com with your shipping info and the book of your choice, I'll get that right out to you!
Hi everyone!! I'm so glad to be back at Love Is An Exploding Cigar to visit! The place looks great *g* And since this is my anniversary week, I'm trying to plan a perfect romantic getaway weekend. And I’m stuck. I noticed the theme here at the Cigars this week seems to be travel and vacations, so I figure this is the perfect place to brainstorm ideas. After all, you’re all readers of romance, right? What setting do you think is the most romantic?
I thought about a beach setting. The hot sun, the warm sand, the yummy margaritas. Can’t you just imagine the sunset walks along the shore, bare feet and a soft, cotton flowing dress over a very sexy bikini? Maybe a romantic sail along the coast?
Then I considered a big city romance. You know, edgy clubs, fancy shoes, decadent dinners at the hottest restaurant. Dressing up and playing jet setter, complete with mimosas for brunch (because who’s up for breakfast after a night of clubbing?) and champagne for dinner.
A snowy mountain getaway for that secluded romance. Snowball fights and skiing, winding up in front of a roaring fire with a hot toddy and an even hotter hero?
A serene bed and breakfast in Napa, a biking tour of the wineries ending in a delicious dinner with locally grown wine?
(Yes, I do notice that all my vacation scenarios seem to include booze... I might need to think about that LOL)
I’ve got it!! How about an inclusive resort – Club Med style? Something that provides a complete resort getaway, with all the amenities provided. This would be similar to the one in my April Blaze, COMING ON STRONG, where the hero is launching a luxury resort and wants to make it special –make it really stand out. Enter the heroine, whose unique idea pushes all of the hero’s buttons. I mean, she’s talking about turning his posh getaway into a sexual playground. Talk about providing for ALL the guests needs! *g* I had so much fun with this story, because it really let me go wild coming up with the perfect vacation spot – at least, the perfect one for these two characters.
So what do you think? If you had your choice of any romantic getaway, what would be the perfect one for you? And what would be the perfect drink to go with the perfect romantic getaway? I’ll pick one commenter to win a copy of any book in my backlist *g*

I wouldn't care where...
As long as there are no kids, LOL.
DH and I are happy anywhere, as long as we don't get interrupted by dogs or kids. :-)

I hear ya!
I hear you! No kids AND no dogs. Just blissful, relaxing togetherness.
I'm with Shirley
No kid, no house, and a big bed...I'm good! ;)
Perfect drink...hmmm...I'd have to go with a chai latte. I'm easy to please!
ETA - no house to take care of, I mean - yeesh - a big bed without a house around it is either exhibitionist or a Blaze in the making! ;)
Oooh, story idea!
A big bed, no house. Very Blazey for sure, Shirley LOL
I love it! I'm picturing something with silk sheets, a lot of bright fabrics hanging around the bed (pseudo privacy)and mounds of pillows.
Hey Tawny!
So now you're back for good, right? Ha! That was our evil plan all along... ;)
But of your choices, I have to say the beach vacation and the biking vacation appeal to me most -- I don't think you can ever lose with a beach vacation. Beaches are just automatically the most romantic places for me.
One of my favorite things that we've done on our getaways is getting drinks from the hotel or beach bar, and heading down to sit by the water with our rum runners or similar beach drinks. Sometimes we're all alone (yummers) and sometimes other people are around, and that's fun, too -- one time, we sat and watched a game of glow in the dark volley-ball -- all of the people and the ball were painted with black light paint, and they only had black lights (so it was really still pretty dark) -- lots of fun.
Glad to have you here and the book looks great!
Sam
Tricky, Sam
LOL -you are so sweet! I love evil plans ;-)
That volleyball game sounds SO fun! hehe, especially after a couple rum runners. But I'm with you - of them all, the beach idea has the biggest sigh-worthy appeal. Maybe its because it requires the least amount of clothes? Of the warmth of the sun combined with the serenity and inspiration of watching the water? I'm a fan of anything with water :-)
and thanks! Its so cool to be here!
my getaway
Tough choice. A secluded cabin with a hot tub overlooking a meadow of wildflowers? A secluded beach villa? To drink? Ice cold sweet tea.
Upscale!
Oooh, Marcie. A beach Villa? Yeah baby!! The kind with balconies overlooking the water and a huge padded beach lounge chairs for two.
Although the meadow of wildflowers sounds so pretty, too.
I love the cabin in the
I love the cabin in the woods in winter getaway. Go out for snowshoeing, snow ball fight, and fresh air and then back to the cabin where dh starts a roaring fire and I make hot cocoa with marshmallows to sip on sitting in front of the fire.
Contrasts
Buddy, isn't that a great contrast- the icy cold exhilaration of the outdoors, then the blazing fire and relaxing cocoa indoors?!
me, too, I'm with Shirley
No kids, no dogs, no meals to prepare, no house to clean or beds to make or laundry to do
Yep, that's the perfect romantic get-away.
Adore being an empty-nester and occasionally con my niece into babysitting the dogs so we don't need to mess with them either.

Yes!
Betty, just had to hop in, because with two (sweet, but high maintenance) dogs and two cats, we often fantasize about vacations from our pets. I am so happy to have a good kennel now, which, while it costs us a bit, I know I can leave them there and then just forget the daily pet routine. But sometimes, as much as I love them, I would even just like to take a walk by myself, or with hubby, dog free... maybe I should! LOL
Sam
I'm so jealous!
Like you and Sam say, a vacation without pets is a REAL vacation11 My dogs are a, well, sweet PITA *g* I love and adore them, but they do make travel an issue. Who'd figure dumping two kids on someone would be so much easier than dumping two dogs?
Welcome home, Tawny!!
The most romantic getaway I ever had was:
I came in the door on Friday night and there was no light on in the kitchen. At the time, my husband cooked M-F. He greeted me and said that The Child was spending the night with a friend and did I want to go out for dinner. Since our anniversary was the following day, I figured we'd just celebrate early since we'd be childless. Of course I said yes!
He directed me to the bedroom so I could change clothes. On our bed was a suitcase partially filled. He wouldn't tell me WHERE we were going but that we were going away overnight. He suggested I wear a dress but bring casual clothes for the next day.
So I put on a dress, finished packing the suitcase and off we went!
He took me to a favourite town about 45 mins away from us. It's got a real Victorian feel about it and is very artsy-craftsy. We went to dinner at one of our favourite places and they had a guitar/piano duo playing near our table which was really nice.
Then he took us to where we were staying. It's called a Castle, although its really just a big manor house (added on to). However, they filmed part of The Fabulous Baker Boys there.
The next day, he took me another 30 mins away to a place we love going for breakfast. Then we headed back to the town where we'd spent the night because they were hosting a bead show.
We puttered away the afternoon, bought some fun things for dinner at the farmers market, some handmade dark chocolate, etc.
By the time we got back home, just in time for dinner with The Child, I felt as if I'd been gone a week instead of just about 24 hours.
It was especially wonderful because he'd made all the arrangements himself, including asking our friends to keep The Child.
Favourite thing to drink? Probably champagne would have been appropriate but they didn't serve it. I did have some special tea for breakfast that morning, if that counts.
ani
Wow!
What a keeper, Ani! Your getaway (and DH) sound terrific! :) Maybe I should forward this to my DH...
Deep sigh of envy
Oh wow. What a romantic and fabulous getaway!! And the best part is that your hubby planned it all out FOR you. WOW. I'm so in love with your description of the weekend. It sounds perfect!!!
Ditto what everyone's said!
No kids, no cooking/cleaning... just a gorgeous room, yummy food, and time to enjoy being with each other!
The perfect drink? I'm a sucker for those fruity drinks with umbrellas--they just bring to mind vacation, and I think part of enjoying the time is getting into that vacation mind-set :)
Umbrella drinks!
Fedora, don't you love those? Or the long swizzle sticks with fruit on them! Maybe that's why I adore the beach vacation idea the most- it just makes me think umbrella drink *g*
I like the rest of your plan, too. No kids, no cleaning, yummy food that I didn't cook. All good!!!
Sun, sand, and surf, on
Sun, sand, and surf, on Maui. What better to drink than a Blue Hawaii?
Surfs Up!!
Estella, I love a Blue Hawaii. What a great trip idea. Just a smidge out of my price range, though.
Hi Tawny!
So great to see you back at Cigars! As for my choice of a romantic getaway, I'd have to go with touring Italy. It's a gorgeous country with such rich history...and if I managed to snag my own Italian hunk while I was touring and sipping vino, so be it. ;)
Hope to see you here again soon! And it's almost time for Going Down Hard...yay!
Cari

Mmmmm, vino!
Hey Cari! I looove this idea. Its even more out of my price range than Hawaii *g* but OMG wouldn't it be romantic?! *sigh* Oh yeah, I'm all for it! And thanks ;-) Its awesome to hang out here again -Cigars rocks!
Beach
Hi Tawny,
I would love to hang out at a Tahitian resort and spend the day sipping mango margaritas, getting a massage and eating exotic cuisine.
Mango
MMMMMmmmmm Jane, you had me at mango margaritas. Or - my current favorite, pomegranate margaritas (oh my!) Tahiti sounds so exotic and sexy! I love this idea.
I'm going with the....
BEACH!!!!! Nothing to me like warmth and sea and sand and sun.
Unfortunately, I married a Russian historian, and we always end up in eastern Europe...not that it's not lovely, but in my next life, I'm marrying a French historian. Or maybe, a Carribbean one....(Yes, they do exist...)
LOL
But eastern Europe must be fascinating! No chance of convincing him to check out other histories for the sake of comparison? I mean, the Caribbean? Oh baby!! And the rum... that's the ticket!!
And definitely the beach ;-)
lol
How unromantic would it be if I said my perfect romantic getaway right now would be for me, myself, and I? I can't seem to turn around without something else getting shoved in my face with something else to do. Today was my last class - ever, really, yet I don't have any sense of relief. A friend told me I need to go away somewhere with no technology and where there is no way for ANYONE to reach me. Truth.
So - I'd like to go to the Mediterranean, in some private villa. Or a beach. In the middle of nowhere. I'm not a single drink kind of girl - I'm pretty adventurous, actually - though I like the girly fruity ones.
:P If I had a SO right now though, I guess I could bring him along :P
Love the One You're With
Hey, a solo vacation could be extremely perfect, if not too romantic *g* Congratulations on the last class EVER! Omg that's fabulous :-) I wonder how long it will take for that to sink in? And yes, I'd say a solo, technology free vacation is just the ticket. I'm a fan of villas, especially ones that server fruity girly drinks.
solo vacation with books...
Books. Girlie drinks. Beach. Alone. I am so there, too. Don't worry, I won't talk to you. We can just raise our glasses and nod, then go back to reading...
Oh yeah
The perfect vacation... We can also nod in appreciation when the cabana boy brings the tray of fruit and chocolate *sigh*
LOL
Thanks Diana - you can come along with my on my "solo" vacation. And you know what? Tawny had a good point. We can have really hot guys bring us our girly drinks. ;)
There. That could have all the potential in the world for romance... :P
i have to say a spa now
i have to say a spa now massage an d the fully treatment, facial and peaceful muscic no distratctions of the outside world lol. i need a diaquri with liquer lol.
cognrats on your books
Tuscany....Italy...Greece
I NEED to go there before I die. I think it would be a wonderfully romantic, relaxing, as well as take-you-back-to-simpler-times vacation. Of course I'd have to try a glass of each local winery, some uzo or the local palette cleanser and the coffee. It would not be fair not to try all of the local fair. :D I love taking in the local culture, strolling, sitting in cafe's, talking to the locals. Finding people from your own State or even town when you are a world away.
DH and I recently treated ourselves to an early 20 year anniversary this past March. We didn't go to anywhere you'd think was romantic. But...the room with the ocean view, sound of the waves, gorgeous sun, shells, birds, and of course eating and drinking all made it just perfect for us. We needed to get away. This is only the second time we've been away from our family in almost 20 years. It was worth it. It wouldn't matter where, just get me outta this long winter up here at least once a year.
Thing is, dh hates to spend the money/take time off of work/family, but he was the first one to say, "We should do this every year." I, of course, had to agree.
Me???
Oh My Gosh! I am one blessed person this past month. Wow. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Tawny...did you receive my email?
Sometimes it doesn't get to it's destination. Just checking. No rush. I'm sure you are very busy, as am I. Toodles. Stay well.
Got it and THANK YOU
Besides the book, I got a bunch of bookmarks, one is magnetic(my fave), sticky notes with TW on them....hey those are my initials too, and postcards of bookcovers. Thank so much Tawny.
